As part of the PennDOT Freedom Road Turnpike Bridge Project, short term weekend closures are necessary.
Freedom Road (State Road 3020) will close, from Executive Drive to Commonwealth Drive, at 10:00 PM Friday night and re-open on Monday morning at 6:00 AM, as follows:
- Weekend of August 14-17 – Paving buildup, widening and switching traffic to the new bridge.
- Weekend of August 21-24 – Demolition of existing bridge on Freedom Road, over the Turnpike.
The detour eastbound on Freedom Road will have motorists turn right onto Commonwealth Drive to Thornhill Road then go northbound on Route 19 (Perry Highway) to Freedom Road. Delays are anticipated. Seek alternate routes.
Motorists westbound on Freedom Road will turn right onto Executive Drive, turn right onto Cranberry Square Drive then go southbound onto SR 19 (Perry Highway) to Thornhill Road to Commonwealth Drive, back onto Freedom Road. Delays are anticipated. Seek alternate routes.
General traffic restrictions along Freedom Rd. This includes general flagging of traffic and lane width restrictions. During certain phases of the project, travel lanes will be restricted to a 10 ft. width. These traffic restrictions will take place over the course of the project. Design of a north/south connector road to provide a grade-separated connection between Cranberry Springs and developments to the north of Rt. 228 to MSA, Cranberry Woods and developments to the south of Rt. 228. The thruway will also provide direct access from I-79 into the Cranberry Springs development, including the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The thruway also includes pedestrian and bicycle facilities. I-79 NB & SB Bridges over North Boundary Road
April 23, 2020. The I-79 bridge project over North Boundary is approved to resume, effective April 27. Initial construction will be completion of the crossover for northbound I-79. Asphalt is currently not available at night so this paving will occur during the day with a lane restriction on I-79. Due to low traffic volumes the impact is anticipated to be minor.
This project involves the complete replacement of two structures carrying I-79 over North Boundary Rd. in Cranberry Township, Butler County. The project goal is the expedited replacement of two currently deficient structures. The southbound bridge will be replaced in 2019 and the northbound bridge will be replaced in 2020. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on I-79 at all times using a cross over to a temporary bridge located between the two existing structures. Rochester Road / Meeder Farm Project
Widening of Rochester Rd. for an additional through lane in each direction, from Commerce Park Dr. to Graham School Rd. This project will be completed by the developer of Meeder Farms. Projected Status: Site work began February 5, 2019. Work along Rochester Rd. work is pending PennDot.
