[ARCHIVED] Don’t pass stopped school buses

Passing a school bus stopped to load or unload children is dangerous and against the law, but it happens. Now a coordinated effort is afoot to change that. On October 22, police departments, school transportation providers and pupil transportation associations all across Pennsylvania, including Cranberry, are joining PennDOT in a combined effort to raise driver awareness and reduce the incidence of illegal passing. In many communities, local police will either follow, ride along or watch the bus from hidden locations, ticketing violators. Participating bus operators will record as much as they can about the vehicles that pass them and relay it to local law enforcement authorities to issue tickets. If convicted, a motorist could receive a $250 fine, five points on their driving record, and a 60-day suspension of their driver’s license.
